Photo competition: Terms and Conditions

By entering the competition, all entrants agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. The Votes at 16 coalition reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions. Any amendments will be published on the Votes at 16 website.

Submission and Acceptance

1. The closing date for entries to the competition is Wednesday 17th August by midnight.

2. The competition will run on www.votesat16.org.uk, and Facebook.com/votesat16.

3. Photos should be emailed to votesat16@byc.org.uk with the subject of ‘Photo Competition’ along with a 150-word (max) outline of what your image represents. Maximum of three photos per entry per person.

4. Your photos should be supplied in JPEG format and should be a minimum of two megabytes and a maximum of four megabytes. The email you send with your photo must also include your full name, e-mail address and telephone number.

5. Entry is free, but entrants should be aware that they may be subject to local call charges depending on their own individual arrangements for internet access

6. The winner will be notified by email or by phone by Friday 19th August. All reasonable endeavours will be made to contact the winner before 21st August. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, the coalition reserve the right to choose another winner from the entries which were received before the closing date

7. Pictures will not be accepted into the competition if they are deemed inappropriate. This includes images that may be offensive, previously published, copyrighted (by somebody other than the entrant) or otherwise contrary to the spirit of the competition or any of the specific rules noted. Photos may also not be accepted into the competition if they feature advertising or trademarks which would otherwise require the coalition to obtain permission to use or would contravene rules which may govern university publications and communication channels

8. If your photos are deemed inappropriate, they will not be considered by the competition judges and / or will be removed from the accepted pool of photos. Whilst we do try to notify owners of the reasons why their photo has not been accepted, we cannot guarantee a personal response or dialogue for all photos

9. If you take pictures of other people, you are responsible for gaining their consent for the coalition to use their image free of copyright, fee or any other usage restriction. If you happen to take pictures of people aged under18 as part of your entry, you must get consent from the subject’s parents before submitting your photo

10.  Any false information provided concerning identity, contact details, ownership of right or non-compliance with these terms and conditions may result in the immediate elimination of the entrant from the competition

11.  The coalition are not responsible for any malfunction of the competition site or any late, lost or damaged films due to computer, network or telecommunication failures of any kind which may limit an entrant’s ability to participate

12.  The competition cannot pay for production costs or reimburse entrants for any costs incurred in the making or submitting of their photo

4. Competition Prizes, Judging & Prize Draw

1. No cash alternative, charity donation or substitution prize will be offered

2. Entries must be the original work of the author and not previously published. The winner will be the entrant whose photograph, in the opinion of the judges, demonstrates the greatest flair, technique and originality

3. The judge’s decision is final and binding on the entrants. No correspondence will be entered into

5. Copyright, Licence and Your Work

1. All entrants warrant that their images will not breach any laws, including without limitation, obscenity laws.  The promoter reserves the right to pass on any images which cause it concern to the relevant authorities

2. In submitting to the competition, all entrants must declare that the photographs are their own work and free of any copyright other than their own personal copyright

3. All entrants must also agree to grant the Votes at 16 coalition a royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to publish and otherwise use the submitted material for marketing and promotional purposes in connection with the competition and the Votes at 16 campaign.

4. All entrants agree that they are happy for their photos to be cropped and re-sized as necessary to fit different mediums

7. Feedback & Other Correspondence

1. For a list of competition winners, please apply in writing after Friday 19th August to votesat16@byc.org.uk.
